Australian autumn is genuinely tricky to dress for. It's not cold enough for proper winter layers, but absolutely cold enough to feel it at 8am. And unlike some climates, the temperature swing between morning and midday can be significant.
The solution — as with most things in kids' dressing — is layers. But not bulk.
Start with a long sleeve base
Our Long Sleeve Staple Tee is the foundation of every autumn outfit. It's warm enough to handle the cool morning, light enough to wear alone when the sun comes out, and it works under literally everything else we make.
Add a mid-layer that's easy to remove
The Pull Over is ideal here. It's not a full hoodie, so it goes on and off quickly — which matters when you have a child who runs hot by 10am. It also packs flat into a bag, which is worth more than it sounds.
The hoodie for genuinely cool days
When it's actually cold (think July in Melbourne or a rainy day anywhere) the hoodie is the move. It's warm, it has a hood for drizzle, and it still looks great over the rest of the outfit.
Bottoms: trackies all the way
Trackies with a slight weight to them (like ours) are exactly right for autumn. Not too hot, not too thin, and they move well for kids who are active all day.
The kit I'd put together for autumn
