One of the things I thought hardest about when designing Cubs Closet's pieces was colour. Not just whether they were nice on their own, but whether they'd work together — because that's what actually makes a kids' wardrobe easy to use every single morning.
Here's how the colour logic works, and how to use it.
Everything plays nicely with neutrals
Moon Mist (our warm grey), Almond (our oat tone), and any of our whites are true neutrals — they pair with literally everything else in our range. If you're building from scratch, start here.
The accent colours are chosen to work together
Dusty Rose and Rust are both warm tones that sit happily side by side without clashing. Moon Mist cools them both down beautifully. You don't need to match, you just need to stay in the same temperature family (warm or cool) and things will look intentional.
Contrast works too
Don't be afraid of contrast. A Rust pull-over with Moon Mist trackies looks considered and deliberate. An Almond long sleeve with Dusty Rose trackies is clean and soft. Trust the palette — it's been tested.
The one rule that always works
One colour piece, one neutral piece. That's it. Coloured top, neutral bottom. Neutral top, coloured bottom. You literally cannot go wrong.
Pro tip: dress them in what you'd photograph
This is a very personal metric but I stand by it. If you'd be happy to capture the outfit in a photo, it works. Kids are their own best accessories anyway the clothes just need to stay out of the way.
