Why we chose GOTS cotton — and what it actually means for your kids

When I started Cubs Closet, one of the first things I knew I needed to nail was fabric. Not just because soft fabric feels amazing on little skin (though it does), but because the words natural and organic get thrown around a lot — and they don't all mean the same thing.

So what is GOTS certification?

GOTS stands for the Global Organic Textile Standard. It's one of the most rigorous certifications in the textile industry, covering everything from the farming of the raw fibre right through to the finished garment. That means no harmful pesticides on the cotton plants, no toxic dyes in the fabric, and fair labour practices throughout the supply chain.

It's not just a stamp you can buy — every step of the process has to be independently audited. That's why we chose it for our tees.

What about our bottoms?

Our trackies, leggings, and pull-overs are certified to the OEKO-TEX Standard 100 — which tests the finished product for over 100 harmful substances. It's a different kind of assurance: less about the whole supply chain, more about what's actually in the fabric touching your child's skin.

Both certifications matter. Both are independently verified. And both mean you can dress your cubs without having to wonder what's in their clothes.

Have questions about our fabrics? Feel free to get in touch — I love talking about this stuff.
